Last week my hubs and I decided to take a short road trip to Prince Edward County for a little staycation. It’s another beautiful wine region of Ontario and just a 2 and a half hour drive from Toronto. We stayed in Wellington which is fairly central to the wineries and a short drive to Sandbanks Provincial Park. We were lucky to reserve a beautiful Air BnB across the lake.
The day we drove out of the city hustle was gorgeous. Warm and sunny, it finally started to feel like summer was upon us! We headed straight for the sandy beaches of Sandbanks with our Canada 150 Discovery Pass. Unfortunately, they’re only good for National Parks – so now you know and hopefully I’ve saved you the surprise!
Our Air BnB came with bikes which we fully made use of riding in and around town. We created our own “wine tour” and had an amazing stay!
I tried not to work, but couldn’t help asking about the beautiful Drake Devonshire while having brunch on their lakefront patio. Best view in town. It definitely stood out from the traditional banquet facilities some wineries offered. The food was delicious and the service was great, I can’t wait to go back!
A hipster’s dream! The Drake Hotel in Toronto opened up this beautiful lakefront location a couple of years ago. Every corner is unique and made for Instagram photos! It’s perfect for hip, urban couples who’d love an intimate wedding in the country. They don’t believe in room rentals for the event spaces but they do require you to book a minimum number of hotel rooms from 1 to 2 nights depending on the space you choose.
They have 2 ceremony spaces – an indoor and outdoor location. Their outdoor location is lakefront, reminiscent of being at the cottage. They have built in wooden stadium seating for your guests to get the perfect views. The indoor location is called the “Glass Box”. With floor to ceiling windows it feels like your outdoors as well. It usually houses a Ping Pong Table that’s removable and since it’s The Drake, one of the walls is covered with a cool green wallpaper print.
Again the Drake doesn’t disappoint and gives you options for your reception as well.
All of their spaces can be rented out for a reception and the capacity ranges from 40-70 people for a cocktail reception with food stations. It ranges from 30-50 for a fully seated dinner.
The main spaces would be the graffiti art covered Pavilion and the Dining Room that is usually the Restaurant. I just love the pops of colour in both reception spaces. Their furniture is unique which means you really don’t have to do much as there is so much going on! Cute little floral centrepieces should do the trick!
All in all, it’s just a beautiful venue with bright, vibrant and unique spaces to celebrate your love in!
